Melanie - I tell you what, if you win the elf shorts, I'll wrap a scone up with them. ;)

nypinta - oh for god's sake! A muffin is a bun! A scone... is... not. Alright? Uhm....

ragnvald - Oh yes. We have to dress up for our scones in the UK.

More importantly - how do you pronounce it?
"Scon" or "Scoan"?

Scones are also sold in the US without raisins and called biscuits for some strange reason. Like American muffins aren't real muffins either - they're a small cake or bun type thingy as you so rightly say.

fuckin scones......... I actually love them! Have had all different types. Places like, oh lets say UTAH, have what they call scones but is really Indian Fry Bread. Where they got the idea to call them scones no one will ever know, but they are pretty damn yummie! :-)

nypinta - good, glad we've cleared that up then. ;)

chris - there are jabazillions of scone varieties, so why anyone would want to add some imposter to the scone fold I have no idea. :)
